In case emails are an important component of your electronic correspondence with business colleagues or relatives, you may be better off using an email account with your own personal domain name and an email service provider that offers support for the POP3 and IMAP email delivery protocols, rather than relying on a web-based email service that involves limitations with regard to the maximum size of the attachments. In this way, you will be able to access your mailboxes on any desktop or mobile device using any client – Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook, and so forth. With the IMAP email protocol, you’ll be able to check the emails at your end, but they will be on the server all the time, whereas with POP3, all email messages will be downloaded on the device, unless you choose a copy to be kept on the mail server. What’s more, you’ll be able to take advantage of a lot of other handy options – calendars, contact groups, and so on, not to mention that in case there’s a brief issue with your Internet connection, you can still examine your email messages since they’ll be on your desktop or handheld device.
